BlockRebar Android App - Talks You Through Concrete Block Rebar Placement.
BlockRebar is an Android App that Calculates and speaks 8 inch block vertical Rebar Placements while you mark them out.
Enter Panels and Openings in inches, separated by spaces. eg: for a wall with an 8' panel, then a 3'8" opening, then a 6'8" panel, enter '96 40 44'.
All panels and openings must be multiples of 8", and the list must end with a panel. (an odd number of entries). Tap 'Demo' to pre-fill with random examples and see how it works.
Tap the 'Spacing' dropdown and select max rebar centers. Hit 'Calculate' to create the running rebar placement map and enable the control buttons ready to mark out the bars.
Tap 'Next' to step through the running measurements.
Hit 'Auto Speak' and it will speak the measurements at set intervals. You can increase or decrease the delay with 'Delay +' and 'Delay - ' buttons.
The delay is longer for larger openings, giving you time to move to the other side of the opening.
Put the phone in your top pocket and tap the big 'Next' button through your shirt, leaving both hands free to mark out.
Tap 'Voice Input' and say Next, Repeat, Back or Stop to have the app speak the results to you,
or scroll down to a screen sized Next button that's easy to tap (even in your top pocket).

To download and install BlockRebar on your Android device, tap Settings -> Applications and check the 'Unknown sources' checkbox to allow the install.
Download BlockRebar (Imperial) directly yo your Android, or download to PC and transfer to Android.

Then on the device, tap Downloads (or File Manager), then BlockRebar.apk in the download list, and hit 'Install'.
When ready to accept a spoken command, the app will say 'Go'. You say Next, and after the app speaks the measurement there is a delay to allow you to mark it out,
before the app says 'Go' again, ready for the next voice command. If the delay is too long, say Faster.
This has the same effect as saying Next, but the time delay is shortened by 1 second.
If the time delay is too short, say Slower.
You can also say Wait to delay the next voice request (Go) for 1 minute.
 If you put your phone in your top pocket, and tap the big 'Next' button through your shirt,
position the 'Lock Scroll' checkbox to top of screen and check it to stop the screen scrolling, moving the button from view.
If your Android does not already have Text to Speech installed, the app will direct you to the Android App Market to install the free plugin.
While testing this app, it became apparent that walking along marking out with a tape and marker, by your self, while constantly saying 'Next', 'Repeat' or 'Back'
can draw the attention of onlookers. Be prepared to explain what you are doing to people who may think you are crazy.
