Rakes Gables and Centers
We have a wall, and its long , the angle is °, so
We have a wall. Its high and long so
This wall is high and long so
Ok, its long and the angle is  degrees so
We need to go up a rake and mark cleats at centers that are plumb above the ones below, that are level, but because we're on the rake, the centers need to be further apart to be plumb. The points below are at centers on the level and the angle is degrees. so so as they're plumb above the ones below
Print me out the running measurements up the rake starting at mill (level) PrintPrint Running centers
We need to go up a rake and mark a point thats directly plumb above a point below. We cant plumb up because theres stuff in the way. The point below is level in from the end, and the angle is °. so to the point directly plumb above the one below
We need to cut this block at an angle. The block's wide or long and the angle is ° so from one side to the other to make this angle
We need to lay these blocks up on an angle, and the ends have to be cut plumb. The angle is ° and
the blocks are high, so that I need to cut the bottom shorter than the top, so as when I lay the end block on the angle, the cut end is plumb
We have a gable with bond beams on top, and the angle is degrees. The blocks are high, the joints are 3/8" and theres bond beam courses. So down from the topdo we need to go to start the stretcher cuts, so as when we lay the bond beams on top, they end up at the right height
We know the pitch, so how do we work out the angle. Pitch is Rise in Length. If its 5' long and rises 1', its a pitch of 1 in 5
We got a pitch (rise) of in length of so 1 in 1 = 45 °
Circles
We have a circle , and its radius is from the outside to the middle
so right round the outside and
We have a part of a circle. Its radius is mill, from the outside to the middle, but the circle only goes for °, so round the outside of the part of the circle and of the part inside
We have a part of a circle. We know where it starts and the radius is , and the part of the circle goes for °. We worked out how far round the outside, but we cant measure round the outside properly to see where it ends. We pulled a tape from the middle to lay the blocks, but we're not sure where to end. If we measure straight accross from the start point to where it should end, sort of like the string in a bow,
Angles
It's an angle, and its supposed to be ° deviation, so if we meausure up each side from the point the angle is it between the 2 points to get this angle
This time we measured up each side of the angle   and its accross between the 2 points , so
