2 MethodsCrown Molding How to cut Crown Molding with Compound Miter Saw or Miter Box.

1: Non-Compound Method (Vertically Nested)

DO NOT use angles from table below

Place molding in miter saw with angled 'flats' on back of molding resting squarely on the fence and base of the saw, as it will sit against wall and ceiling. Rest bottom of molding against the fence and top of molding against table.

Set miter angle to half wall angle. For example: 45° miter for 90° walls. If using a Compound Miter Saw, Set Bevel angle to 0° (No bevel) On an inside corner, the top of the molding will be shorter; on an outside corner, the bottom will be shorter.
2: Compound Method (Flat Down)

DO use angles from table and diagrams below

Place molding in compound miter saw with broad back surface down flat on saw table (visible decorative surface up).

Set saw Miter and Bevel angles from table and diagrams below. Flip the material around to cut both ends of the inside and outside corners.

Always cut test pieces from scrap and fit in place to test before cutting measured lengths
Many walls are not exactly the angle they are supposed to be. Minor adjustments may be necessary to cut angles for a good fit.
