Tube and Pipe Notching Calculator - Full Scale Printable Templates
If Cut Tube Wall Thick is larger than 0, the cut fits to the inside diameter of the tube, making a notch for welding.
For a snug fit at the outside of the tube, enter 0 Cut Tube Wall Thick and grind inside of tube to fit.
Print Tube Coping template at 100% printer scale, cut and wrap around cut tube to trace with marker pen for cutting and grinding to shape.
For larger pipes, where a single printed page (template) is too small to wrap completely around the pipe, select 'Plot Point Increments' and click the checkbox
to display notch line offset measurements at each increment around the pipes circumference, from center line outwards. Then measure and mark the notch on the cut pipe.
There are 2 identical sets of offset measurements, starting with the longest center measurement, and going to the outer sides of the template.
One half side of running offset measurements, with their corresponding increment from the centre line are displayed under the main coping template diagram.
This is also a handy way to mark a notch cut if you're on-site with a phone or tablet, and can't print the templates.
Because the 2 sides of the template are exact opposites, if you can fit half of a large template completely on a page, you can mark half (180°) of the pipe, then reverse (flip)
the half template to mark the other side.
To print the template image as close to page top left as possible (best fit for large diagram), hit
Diagrams to PDF
(also below) to open a new window with just the diagrams.
Left click diagrams on the new page to remove all but the main pipe coping template, then print.
Select angle increments and hit 'Full Set' button to draw a set of templates at each selected angle increment for current pipe diameter and wall thickness entries.
Use your browsers 'Print Preview' to check templates are printed complete on each page, and are not cropped on page breaks. (IE 11 will separate diagrams on page breaks).
