Kerf Bending Example Kerf Bending Example I have a Class B Motorhome. It had very limited head space. It also has limited capacity. To extend our off-grid capability I wanted to convert to a composting toilet.
I had two design challenges. One is the limited space, which made most off the shelf options unworkable. The other is a desire to make it actually look like a factory design and not a DIY project. One feature I wanted was basically a box, but with a curved front that was slightly wider at the top. I also wanted to use materials impervious to moisture, since this is a "wet head" which also serves as a shower.

I used 3/4" thick PVC paneling with the smooth side out. The sides and front are one piece which has a rectangle at each end and an arc in between. In the arc portion in used the kerf calculator to size and space 35 cuts based on the lower and shorter arc.
I projected the cut points to the upper and longer arc, with the cuts being comparable to spokes of a wheel rather than parallel. This gave the base a conical shape in the front. The design worked perfectly. With some internal bracing the base assumed the intended shape and is structurally sound.

I needed to place a 2-3" wide ¾" board over a rounded corner of a camper trailer I am remodeling with my daughter.

Your kerf calculator came in quite handy!

Your site is amazing-wish it was available when I was younger and tackling construction projects. However, it’s my go to site for making segmented bowls. This one has maple, wenge, bocote, elm, and western red cedar.
It’s 3” x 11” → ← 5” x 16”, walnut, aromatic cedar (western red), Spalted maple (southern), blood wood (Satine)

We have a new puppy that loves to chew so a regular Christmas tree with dangling ornaments was a bad idea. I decided to make a cone shaped tree out of some 12"x18" craft foam sheets I bought at Walmart for $5 bucks.

Mickey Mouse Pin Board Hello!
Attached is a project I did for my wife.
Don't have the time to steam bend wood, and found this website to help with kerf cutting.
Super crucial part of the project and it worked perfectly.
Building another for my mother in law this week.
Not sure anyone is gonna see this but just wanted to say thanks!

Best, Jacob

Shed using Gambrel Roof built with Gambrel Calculator Gambrel Roof Framing Calculator

Here are a couple photos of a shed that I built using your gambrel calculator.

I really appreciated having your website as a resource to design the roof.

It’s not mis proportioned like a lot of gambrel designs that I see and it was awesome to have exact measurements and angles to work from just by typing in a few parameters.

Thanks again!!!

Greg, here are pictures of the finished bowl. It’s 3 inches by 12 inches. The star is bocote, the wood around the star and the top ring are Ash, and the staves are a type of Central American rosewood which is in the dalbergia family. I have a couple more stave bowls in the works. I really appreciate what you did with Blocklayer. We will be making a donation to Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation.

I used your belt and pulley calculator to reconfigure the speed of my Cummins 5.9L 6BT diesel from 770 RPM to 920 RPM.
It drives my line shaft at 1200 RPM. The single-phase and three-phase generators spin at 1800 RPM, and the air compressor is at 770 RPM.
Your tool helped a ton! Thanks! Pulley Belt Calculator

You guys ROCK, let me just tell you.

Hurricane Maria blew both of our roofs off on our farm in Puerto Rico.

Found your calculator and fiddled around with it until the numbers came out convenient in terms of rafter length and so on, and plunged on in.

I literally *could not have done this* without your calculator, but we finished the roof in December.

Now I'm using your calculator for two more roof jobs for neighbors.

I was able to use the fields on your site to adjust the diameter and height on the bottom cone until I maximized the area on the craft sheet while matching the arch of the top cone. No trig required! Things like this site are why the Internet was invented. I wanted the tree/cone to be taller than what I could make out of a single sheet of craft foam so I needed to closely match the arch on top and bottom cones and have the top cone fit over the lower cone.
Plus I wanted to maximize the used area of the craft foams sheets. That sounded like a lot of math or fiddling to get it right.

Luckily your site made it quick and easy and even let me split the lower cone's pattern into two pieces! Upper cone has a one inch top and a 5.5 inch bottom. Lower cone has a 5 inch top and a 9+ inch bottom.

I have a hobby of making baskets from long leaf pine needles. These baskets are made of coiled bundles of the needles sewn together with various kinds of thread. They can be decorated by changing the the thread colors as the baskets are assembled.
I plan the designs by using your spiral coil printouts.
I have to add radial lines by hand by calculating the points where they cross the outer coil. A typical 8 inch, 20 cm basket would have 49 lines or sections. I believe there are about 5,000 people who have this hobby and they share pictures of their completed projects on the Art of Needle Basketry Facebook group
Thank you. Fred

Attached are pictures of some of the baskets I have made using your spiral diagrams.

Gable Framing Besides bowed wood, went together easy enough.

If you zoom in at the lower section you can a "California corner" and then at the upper end an intersection.

This is a skillion type roof. The front section will terminate at a length of a standard "9ft" stud wall.
