If you're using a circular Saw or Compound Miter Saw, set blade bevel angle to 45° for correct Creeper and Hip side angles.
With a 45° bevel on the saw, cutting at the plumb cut angle of
° will produce the correct hip side angles of
°
It can be difficult to visualize rafter plumb and side cut angles and how the Common, Hip and Creeper rafters all fit together.
To make it easier, before you start to measure, mark and cut, print these templates, fold over some scrap wood (same size as rafters)
and cut through the paper to form the correct plumb and side cuts for Common, Hip and Creeper rafters.
You can now see how each piece fits together to form the correct angles.
You can also use the test piece to set your compound miter saw.
If you use the Template buttons on the
Hip Roof Framing Calculator pages, these rafter templates will open with the correct dimensions from the current calculation.

Ensure your printer scale is set to 100%. (Not 'Shrink To Fit')
Select 'Print Preview' where possible, and decrease printer page margins to better fit larger templates on a single page.
Set Page Orientation to 'Landscape' to better fit image on page.
