Full Scale Printable Equatorial Sundial Templates - Metric

Latitude =
Face Diameter
Hole Diameter (Gnomon)
The dial of the equatorial sundial lies parallel to the equatorial plane. The gnomon, which casts the shadow, passes through the centre of the dial at 90 degrees and aligns with the Celestial Pole. The dial plate is tilted to align the gnomon with the latitude of the sundial. (See diagrams)

Equatorial sundial alignment Size the sundial faces (any size), then cut and use as templates to mark a cardboard, wood or similar surface, or glue paper faces directly onto backing. The dial face templates fit back to back, so the same numbers are in the same position on each face. Place the Gnomon (chopsticks work well) through the centre hole, making sure it sits at 90 degrees to the sundial face. Using the diagram below, create a base to hold the dial face, tilting it at the correct angle, so the Gnomon is at the angle of latitude. Align the tilted dial so the Gnomon faces the correct Celestial Pole.

DON'T BREATH THE DUST If you're cutting blocks, concrete, stone or ANYTHING and there's DUST - DON'T TAKE THE RISK
Don't cut it, or cut it wet so there's NO DUST - Silicosis Sucks
And if you're cutting wet, wear a mask - there's dust in the spray too!

How should we spell it?
