Wall Framing Stud Layout Calculator
?
Many of our Post-Panel-Baluster-Board Spacing related calculators can be used for multiple purposes.
If this calculator is not exactly what you need, try one of these Similar Spacing Calculators.

This Calculator opens with demo random openings so you can see how it works (the results). Click RE-START to clear the demo openings and show empty inputs for the first opening. Enter values and click Calculate to draw opening. Click Add Opening to show the next opening inputs and repeat.
Spread Spacing first places all openings, then spaces studs in each panel (between openings) and individual opening cripple studs evenly at nearest under entered Max Centres.
Tap away on the button and watch as the openings, studs and spacings change to fit.

Spread Centres

Spread Centres first places all openings, then spaces each panel (between openings) and individual opening cripple studs evenly at nearest under entered Max Centres.
If you don't need to join sheeting over exactly placed stud centres, or exactly align trusses with studs, Spread Centres spaces the studs evenly, resulting in smaller centres, less studs, and prevents multiple studs close together.
Exact Centres places studs at exact centres, even if there are multiple studs together at opening edges.
Centres
?
With Exact Spacing some opening edge studs may overlap common studs. To maintain centres, if the overlapped studs are not completely covered, the common stud position is adjusted (moved left or right). If the opening edge studs cover all but a small portion of the common stud (the Tolerance) the common stud is removed. No need to add a stud if the existing opening edge stud is only off by a few mm (the Tolerance). With Colour Code checked, adjusted studs are Blue. Common (un-adjusted) studs are Red. Opening studs are Orange.
Tolerance
?
Draw top and bottom tips of all studs (through all openings) to see where studs have been moved or removed for openings.
?
With Exact Centres, the first stud centre (gap) is adjusted smaller by 1/2 stud thickness so sheeting aligns with start edge of first stud (start of wall)

Blue entries match blue studs in top diagram. They have been marginally adjusted to maintain centres. You may not wish to include these unless they align with sheeting joins.
Check Check Studs to see how closely these studs align to centres.
Blue entries are marginal - you may not want to include these, unless they align with sheet centres. Orange entries are at opening edges.

Spread Centres first places all openings, then spaces studs in each panel (between openings) and individual opening cripple studs evenly at nearest under entered Max Centres. Each panel and opening will have different stud centres (depending on its width), evenly spread at nearest to under entered Max Centres. If you don't need to join sheeting over exactly placed stud centres, or exactly align trusses or rafters with studs, Equal Spacing spreads the studs evenly, resulting in smaller centres, less studs, and preventing multiple closely spaced or adjacent studs.
With Exact Centres some opening edge studs may overlap common studs.
